FAQ

Question:
Why does Penfriend learn double letters that I never typed?

Affecting products:
Penfriend XP, Penfriend NA and all subsequent versions

Problem:
Sometimes I find words in the lexicon that have double letters instead of single letters or a single letter instead of double letters.

Solution:

Penfriend has to analyse a mass of messages moving around inside your computer, and frequently sees several copies of the same message indicating that a button has been pressed. This is avoided using a "duplicate key" delay timer which makes Penfriend ignore two messages about the same letter within a certain period of time. This is best around 200ms. On slower computers, and particularly while SAPI4 speech is being used, this could be set even slower.

To adjust the duplicate key delay, go to the Penfriend Preferences dialogue box, click on Advanced, and edit the number there. (This value is saved once for all users on your computer, and is not part of the individual lexicon).
